The mentoring program is designed to guide newer referees, particularly in the use of the 2-referee system.
Prior to the start of each season, we invite all new refs to participate in one of the multi-team scrimmages
(known as play dates), where under the watch and direction of more experienced officials, they are guided with
respect to positioning and handling calls, substitutions, etc.
Once the season begins, a senior referee is selected to see each new referee at an assigned game and
further provide suggestions. The senior referee, or mentor, is compensated at no additional cost to the
new referee as this mentoring session is part of the class fee.
Further, any referee may request a mentoring session as a means of improving and advancing by getting the
benefit of the senior referee's feedback and guidance. The First Vice-President manages the mentoring program.
